Hawes
Hawes is a small town of narrow streets with hotels; bed and breakfasts; places to eat and drink; interesting shops and several pubs. The Dales Countryside Museum, located in the former Station Yard, is devoted to farming, knitting, lead mining and other industries from the past, as well as featuring a ‘history of the Dales’ railway. A visit to the Wensleydale Creamery is a unique experience and due to the success of ‘Wallace and Gromit’ the creamery is a very popular. The Ropemakers at Town Foot will show you how skipping ropes, washing lines and church bell ropes are traditionally made. Located in the heart of Wensleydale on the A684 between Sedburgh and Leyburn, Hawes is the ideal location for exploring the northern part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
There is ample accommodation provided, as Hawes is a haven for walkers. Bed and breakfast and pub accommodation can be found in and around the town. There are some hotels both on the main streets and locally in the countryside. Self catering holiday cottages are also available.
